MICHAL MITRO (1989, Slovakia) is a conceptual artist, composer and performer working across wide fields of media. He focuses his attention on nuances of everyday life that granted their ordinariness and omnipresence, cease to attract any interest and critical though. He, too, strives to diminish the border between audience and artist/composer, to redefine the art making process and to work towards more inclusive, more accessible and closer to public. Michal Mitro has been pursuing education in various fields of art since 2010. After he graduated from Masaryk University, Czech Republic in 2012, he went on to study Sculpture and Sound Arts at University of Tasmania, Australia and later on Karawitan (traditional Indonesian music) at ISBI Bandung. Mitro has exhibited and performed internationally, mainly in Australia, Indonesia and Chezh Republic.

Here and Now is the online time-space that has its real existence. Past is gone, future has not yet come. The artwork, even though having the lifespan of its own, is only Real in the moment of perception, in the moment of someone paying attention to it and consciously examining it. Without spectator, there is no art. Marina Abramovic's famous piece Artist Is Present performed at MoMA was to shift the focus from the finished material product to the process and in its purest form - the process of attending to the audience.

Mitro's new media installation, just as well minimalistic, attempts to literally frame the presence - capture the moment for a fracture of the time - and embody the relationship between artist, artwork, and the audience in just as radical way as that of Abramovic. Using sensors, micro-controllers, and elements of light and sound, his work is only alive when attended to. Otherwise it turns into an artefact of what was and what is yet to come waiting for its time to revive, waiting for the audience, waiting for the presence.
